Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule informed Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, that political pressure makes it hard for presidents to keep their one-term pledge.
According to ZINGTIE, Obi has stated time and time again that he is prepared to serve as president for just one term if elected in 2027.
In an interview with Arise Television’s “Prime Time” show on Friday, Governor Sule cautioned Obi and other candidates against underestimating the difficulties of Nigerian government.
He asserts that although while a president may only want to hold office for two years or a single term, the realities of the position and the political climate frequently make it practically impossible to address even a small portion of Nigeria’s issues in that time frame.
“Peter Obi might say he wants to do one term, but it is not up to him.“
“Once he assumes office, powerful interests will pressure him, saying, ‘It’s our turn; you cannot do that to us,’ ‘we cannot allow you to do that,’ and ‘we will take you to court if you do that,” Sule said.
