Citing emotional and physical hardship brought on by her husband’s persistent demands for intimacy, a lady in Zimbabwe has requested court intervention.

In her testimony, Nancy Chihota said that Benny Hizaki, her husband, had coerced her into doing intimate actions even at very private events, such as her mother’s burial.

Chihota described an event shortly before she left to grieve for her mother before the court: “With tears still on my cheeks, he forced himself on me.”

She claimed that after she returned from the burial, Hizaki’s demands persisted despite her sadness and fatigue.

“He insists on being intimate every day when he comes home from work, even if I’m on my monthly periods.” Chihota said, revealing that Hizaki demands regular intimacy regardless of her health.

She further revealed that Hizaki had further strained their relationship by threatening to take a second wife if she didn’t comply with his advances.

She acknowledged, “I still love him, but because of the way he acts, sometimes I feel like I’m losing interest in him,”

As part of his defence, Hizaki made the startling allegation that Chihota had hid her HIV status.

“She has been taking antiretroviral drugs for the past five years, and she never told me,” Hizaki alleged. He expressed feelings of betrayal, saying, “I feel like I should punish her for those five years.” He said despite this, he maintained his love for his wife, though he admitted the revelation had fractured their trust. “I also love her, but she can’t be trusted,” he remarked.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Magistrate Meenal Narotam decided in favour of Chihota and gave her a protective order against Hizaki. The decision underlined the value of establishing limits in a marriage and stressed respect and understanding between spouses.

The case has sparked conversations on the intricacies of marriage, the boundaries of conjugal rights, and the necessity for partners to put one another’s mental and physical health first.
