After making false claims about the death of her 73-year-old landlord, a lady in Washington state was arrested and charged with murder. She defended herself.
At around 7:15 p.m. on Friday, October 25, the suspect’s brother-in-law called the police to report the death of an old woman, which prompted the police to become engaged in the investigation.
The King County Sheriff’s Office was informed by him that his sister-in-law had called his wife, claiming that she had k!lled someone and shown her a body via video call.
To date, officials have not disclosed the identity of those persons.
The 19-year-old suspect first denied there was even a dead body when police approached her, according to information from her sister and brother-in-law. She told the dispatcher “it was all a joke and that she was all the way in Everett with a friend,” according to the police’s probable cause statement.
The suspect’s tale altered as the 9-1-1 operator questioned her further, and she allegedly said, “I k!lled her.”
As she continued to describe the purported event, she said that the landlord “tried to punch me, and I st@bbed her.”
Following the publication of the probable cause documents by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, more information became available. According to those documents, the suspect had been residing in the building for around a year.
Deputies discovered a dece@sed woman at the house when they got there.
According to police records, the suspect confessed to killing her landlord once again after being informed of her Miranda rights.
The woman informed officers she had lately “been behind on rent,” which is what caused the incident, after being brought in for questioning.
According to the suspect, she informed police that when her landlady interrogated her about the rent and dragged her into another room, the older woman “struck her in the face.” After a battle broke out between the two, the suspect said, the victim “pulled her hair and the drawstring on her hoodie during the struggle.”
According to court documents, the suspect responded by hitting the woman “hard” in the back and stabbing her “twice with a knife that was already in the room.”
Detectives add that the lady said, “Nothing,” when asked what would have occurred if she hadn’t st@bbed the victim, claiming that her landlord “would still be alive and I wouldn’t be here.”
The suspect had been threatening to k!ll her landlady “if she asked her again about paying rent” for the past month, according to the brother-in-law. They didn’t take her threats seriously, he said.
Police said that even after he and the suspect’s sister moved out of the same house a month ago, the landlord continued to get in touch with them regarding the suspect’s unpaid rent.
The suspect is being jailed at the King County Jail on a $2 million bond after being charged with second-degree m*rder.
