Operation Zenda Joint Task Force in Benue State has arrested a 37-year-old woman for allegedly having 317 live ammunition illegally in possession, which is a significant development in the war against criminality.
The arrest was verified on Tuesday in Makurdi, the state capital, by SP Felix Nomiyugh, the commander of Operation Zenda. The suspect was arrested at Ayati Junction in Benue State’s Ukum Local Government Area.
The woman is thought to be connected to a well-known bandit who operates in the local government area, according to SP Nomiyugh, which raises more questions about criminal activity in the region.
During the arrest, the task force was able to extract from the suspect a cache of live ammunition. Two hundred live rounds of ammunition for the General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and 117 rounds of 7.6mm ammunition were among the goods that were seized.
The arrest is a reminder of the security agencies’ continued efforts to target criminal elements and stop the spread of illegal weapons in Benue state. The difficulties presented by banditry and other related criminal activity in the region are also starkly reminded of.
The facts underlying the suspect’s possession of such a large amount of live ammunition and her alleged affiliation with criminal forces operating in the area are anticipated to become clearer as the investigation into the matter progresses, according to authorities.
