The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has conferred its Corporate Merit Award on Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) for being the largest producer of certified and chartered accountants in Nigeria. The award was presented at ICAN’s 2025 Award and Dinner Night in Lekki, Lagos State.
Yabatech’s Rector, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, received the award from ICAN President Mr. Davidson Alaribe and expressed gratitude for the recognition. “I appreciate the body for organising this event to celebrate members, associates, and organisations who have distinguished themselves in the accounting profession,” Abdul said.
Abdul promised that Yabatech would continue contributing to the development of the accounting profession. “The institution is humbled by the award, promising that it would do more,” he added.
Alaribe noted that the award recognises Yabatech’s significant contributions to the accounting profession and encourages the institution to do more. Notably, ICAN’s first professional examination was conducted at Yabatech, and the college’s accounting graduates frequently qualify as chartered accountants.
The event was attended by notable figures, including the first indigenous Rector of Yabatech and first Registrar/CEO of ICAN, Oba George Majekodunmi Okufi. Other award recipients included Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State and Prof. Ademola Tayo, President and Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University.
