YABATECH student shot dead in suspected cult-related attack near campus

A tragic incident has shaken the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) community after a student was shot dead near the school’s back gate on Tuesday. According to eyewitnesses, the victim was accosted by a group of young men who shot him twice at close range.

The incident occurred shortly after the victim completed his examinations for the day. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the victim found lying in a pool of blood.

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the incident and revealed that seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack. According to the police, the shooting is believed to be linked to a cult rivalry.

“We received a distress call at Sabo Division that a suspected cultist was allegedly shot dead by a group of suspected rival cult members in the Yaba area,” said CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Police Public Relations Officer.

The police spokesperson added that upon receiving the report, a patrol team was swiftly mobilised to the scene, where the deceased was found with visible marks of violence suspected to be bullet wounds. Four rounds of live ammunition and some charms were recovered from the deceased’s pocket at the scene.

The victim’s body has been evacuated and deposited in the mortuary for autopsy. The police are currently investigating the incident and working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

This incident has raised concerns about safety and security within and around the campus. Students are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

The YABATECH community is in shock following the incident, with many students expressing sadness and fear. The school administration has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
