The African Democratic Congress (ADC), an opposition party, has criticized President Bola Tinubu over his latest appointments, accusing him of trying to win back support from Northern Nigerians after what it described as a prolonged period of neglect.

In a statement released on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the appointments reflect political desperation rather than a sincere effort to promote national unity.

“You cannot marginalise a region for over twenty-five months and expect applause because you suddenly remembered on the twenty-sixth month that Nigeria is bigger than Lagos State,” the statement said.

The party further accused the current administration of overlooking the interests of Nigerians, particularly those in the North, arguing that since Tinubu took office, the region has been largely excluded from key policy decisions and appointments.

According to the ADC, most of the administration’s major initiatives have shown little involvement from Northern leaders, dismissing the recent appointments as mere gestures with no real substance.

“But Northerners, as co-owners of our great federal republic, know better than to be deceived by these token appointments. They see through President Tinubu’s actions, and can sense that this is not genuine. Tokenism is not inclusion, and symbolism is not governance,” the ADC National Publicity Secretary said.

The party concluded by calling on the President to abandon what it described as “Bourdillon-style” politics and instead embrace true national cohesion through inclusive dialogue, equitable policymaking, and respect for federal character principles.
