Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has come under pressure from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for his recent criticism of President Bola Tinubu.
The former SGF is attacking Tinubu because Babachir wanted to be vice president and Tinubu chose a better, more qualified, and more sophisticated candidate, the APC claimed in a post on its X handle.
Babachir is the newest political content producer and soothsayer who is struggling to find political oxygen, according to the APC.
Babachir had previously given a number of controversial and unjustified interviews, but none have matched what the APC called the “incoherence and desperation” he demonstrated in his most recent television appearance on Monday.
“That outing revealed a deeply troubled soul, slowly unraveling; even if wildly swinging in all directions, wearing ideological inconsistency like a badge of honor.
“It was obvious that the entire performance on Channels yesterday was nothing more than a poorly scripted attempt to bait President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is the same man Babachir once swore the “wrath of God” should fall upon anyone who stood in Tinubu’s way to the presidency.
“Today, he casually flings insults at that very man, calling him names, disrespecting his office and making derogatory references. That says everything about Babachir’s character and upbringing — a fair-weather friend, an opportunist, clout chaser and clay footed political crusader,” it said.
The APC told Babachir that it is still possible to change his mind, but cautioned him against disparaging President Tinubu’s office and character. They said that the televised monologues only serve to remind Nigerians of his past in office and his rapid decline into political and social obscurity.
According to the ZINGTIE, Babachir had claimed that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has won the 2023 elections.
The APC retorted, highlighting Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 elections and stating that he will continue to be Nigeria’s legitimate president until 2027.
“Your claim that Peter Obi “won” the 2023 elections is not only egregious but a barefaced lie. The people have spoken, the law has sanctioned it; the courts have ruled,” the ruling party replied Babachir.
