Zamfara: Bandits kill 38 hostages after collecting N50m ransom

After obtaining N50 million in ransom, bandits executed 38 people who had been kidnapped from Banga village in Zamfara State’s Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

Mannir Haidara Kaura, the Chairman of Kaura-Namoda LGA, confirmed the incident to Channels Television, stating that 18 people were later freed after 56 people were first kidnapped from the village.

Kaura also revealed that the 18 victims who were set free have been taken to the hospital for medical care.

“From the information I got as the chairman of the local government, 56 were abducted by the bandits and only 18 returned.

“We took the remaining 18 people to hospital, they are on medication. We are also preparing to go with the state government to go and see the families of those that lost their lives,” the LG chairman said.

Ibrahim Banga, a hamlet resident, previously told Channels Television that 53 individuals were kidnapped by the bandits when they broke into the community months ago.

He claims that after a few weeks, the community was able to raise and provide the N1 million that the kidnappers had asked for each hostage.

Only eighteen of the prisoners were ultimately freed, though.

“Upon their return, the freed victims recounted how the bandits slaughtered the remaining 35 abductees, killing them one after the other during their captivity,” the resident said.

In order to assist restore peace, make it easier for displaced people to return, and free those who are still being kept captive by the criminals, he urged the federal government and the state of Zamfara to immediately expand military operations in the region.
