President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has said that his nation will utilise 2025 to fight for an end to Russia’s invasion, which has lasted for almost three years, by all means necessary.
Zelensky’s speech brings a conclusion to a challenging year for the nation, which has been fighting off a Russian army with greater resources for almost three years.
In a speech to the public shortly before midnight in Kyiv, the Ukrainian leader said that May 2025 will be their year.
“We know that peace will not be given to us as a gift but we will do everything to stop Russia and end the war,” he said.
Since the war began, Ukraine has lost seven times more territory to Russia in 2024 than in 2023, and is facing the risk of a drop in US military and political aid when Donald Trump takes over the White House.
In an effort to assist Kyiv prior to Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, incumbent US President Joe Biden’s government announced about $6 billion in fiscal and military assistance for Ukraine on Monday, according to ZINGTIE.
Once in power, Trump has pledged to put an end to the conflict within 24 hours, which has caused Ukraine to fear that it will have to cede all of the territory currently under Kremlin control in exchange for peace.
In his New Year’s speech, Zelensky stated that Ukraine must keep fighting to obtain the upper hand in the conflict and before any potential peace negotiations.
“Every day in the coming year, I, and all of us, must fight for a Ukraine that is strong enough,” the Ukrainian leader said.
