Zenith Bank named Best Bank in Nigeria, praised for exceptional service and Innovation

Zenith Bank Plc has been named “Best Bank in Nigeria” at the Global Finance Best Banks Awards 2025, marking the fifth time in six years the bank has received this prestigious award. The bank was recognized alongside winners from 36 countries in Africa, selected by Global Finance’s 32nd Annual Best Bank Awards for their exceptional performance in meeting customers’ needs in challenging markets and achieving strong results while laying the groundwork for future success.

According to Global Finance, the selection process involved extensive consultations with corporate financial executives, bankers, and banking consultants worldwide. The criteria for selection included both objective and subjective factors, such as growth in assets, profitability, geographic reach, strategic relationships, new business development, innovation in products, and opinions from equity analysts, credit rating analysts, and banking consultants.

Key Highlights of the Award

– Best Bank in Nigeria: Zenith Bank’s fifth win in six years, solidifying its position as a leader in the Nigerian banking industry.

– Global Recognition: The bank’s achievements have been recognised globally, including being ranked the number one bank in Nigeria by Tier-1 Capital for the 15th consecutive year in the 2024 Top 1000 World Banks Ranking.

– Sustainability: Zenith Bank has been named the Most Sustainable Bank in Nigeria for the second consecutive year in the International Banker 2024 Banking Awards.

Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, group managing director/chief executive of Zenith Bank, expressed her delight at retaining the “Best Bank in Nigeria” position, attributing the achievement to the bank’s commitment to exceptional customer service, innovative financial solutions, and strong corporate governance.

“We are thrilled to retain our position as the best bank in Nigeria for the fifth year since 2020. This achievement is a testament to our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, innovative financial solutions, and dedication to serving our customers with efficiency and a strong focus on corporate governance,” she said.

Umeoji also acknowledged the contributions of key stakeholders, including Founder and Chairman Jim Ovia, the Board, staff, and customers, for their role in the bank’s success.

Joseph D. Giarraputo, Publisher and Editorial Director of Global Finance, highlighted the evolving nature of global banking, emphasizing the importance of resilience, innovation, and technological advancement.

– Most Valuable Banking Brand in Nigeria: Zenith Bank was named the Most Valuable Banking Brand in Nigeria in the Banker Magazine Top 500 Banking Brands for 2020 and 2021.

– Best Commercial Bank: The bank was recognized as the Best Commercial Bank in Nigeria for four consecutive years from 2021 to 2024 in the World Finance Banking Awards.

– Best in Corporate Governance: Zenith Bank has been acknowledged as the Best Corporate Governance Bank in Nigeria for three consecutive years from 2022 to 2024 in the World Finance Corporate Governance Awards
