The Adamawa State Police Command has detained two ladies on suspicion of robbing and purchasing a four-year-old boy.
The Mubi North LGA residents Blessing Okonkwo, 24, and Efunaya Nabufe, 35, are the suspects. They have admitted to robbing and purchasing the boy, who is known as Friday Okonkwo.
As to the statement made by SP Suleiman Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer, on Thursday, the mother of the youngster, Hauwa Lawan, who resides in Rimirgo in Askira Uba, a town bordering Adamawa and Borno, reported her son’s theft to the police on Tuesday, July 2.
Nguroje provided some history on the situation, stating that Friday’s older sister, Blessing, had met their mother in Rimirgo at some point last year and had begged her to release her younger brother so that she may enrol in Mubi School, as Rimirgo does not have a regular school.
Unaware that Blessing had wrapped up talks with Efunaya to purchase the youngster, Hauwa set the boy go.
During the course of discussions, Blessing was alleged to have lied to Efunaya, claiming that the youngster was her son, a child she had while attending secondary school.
According to her confession, she sold the boy for N410,000 and used the proceeds—after giving her fiance N200,000—to purchase a grinding machine.
