Muazu Babangida Aliyu, the chairman of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation’s board of trustees, said on Thursday that Nigerians could try President Bola Tinubu till 2031 if they could put up with former President Muhammadu Buhari for eight years.

In an interview with Arise Television on Thursday, Aliyu made this statement while considering Nigeria’s political past and the necessity of exercising patience with the current administration.

Speaking about the likelihood that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will overthrow President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the former governor of Niger State urged opposition parties to offer Nigerians workable alternatives.

Aliyu pointed out the delicate nature of power sharing in the nation’s unofficial political rotation system and cautioned that internal party defections could further upend the political order.

“You cannot be bad and expect to have your child as an angel. Your child looks at you and the way you behave,” he said, reflecting on leadership behaviour.
