At its next National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) promised to make important decisions.
This is as the ruling party in Kano State prepares for the elections in 2027.
According to a statement from Ladipo Johnson, the National Publicity Secretary, the important meeting scheduled for August 28 will discuss the upcoming national convention and congresses, the recent bye-election, and the mass mobilization and registration of new party members.
According to the statement, the party will also discuss the ongoing constitutional review in order to take a stance on important issues that are necessary to protect the country’s democracy.
The statement stressed, however, that the party remained open to many intervening political variables that are fundamentally related to its founding principles and ideals, regardless of public insinuations or analyst opinions regarding permutations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The statement noted, “Specifically, on the various insinuations by analysts and public opinions on where NNPP stands ahead of the 2027 general election, our position remains what we have stated and restated over time.
”And this is to the effect that politics is dynamic but that our actions and decisions must be within the context of principles and values. The question of national interest is also crucial.
”So to this extent, NNPP is still open to the three options we have talked about in the past: to form a kind of alliance or coalition, remain as NNPP and prosecute the election as individual entity or support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election.
”These three options will be discussed at our NEC meeting on the 28th of August 2025, and to this extent, we appeal to all our members to remain calm as the ultimate decisions would be in the best interest of the people.”
To prepare for the next nationwide mass mobilization and registration of new members, the NNPP urged its members to actively participate in the ongoing continuous voter registration process by registering or reviewing their existing registration.
