The embattled party chairman, Julius Abure, has the option to run for reelection as the national chairman if he so desires, according to Afam Ogene, the leader of the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives.

According to ZINGTIE, since the Supreme Court overturned the Court of Appeal’s ruling in Abuja, recognizing him as the party’s National Chairman, Abure has been fighting to keep his job as chairman.

To succeed him, a caretaker committee headed by Senator Nenadi Usman was established by a number of party officials, including Governor Alex Otti and Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential contender.

Both parties in the lawsuit claimed that the decision favored them, which led to additional dispute inside the party.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Ogene maintained that Abure had been fired as the party’s chairman as a result of the ruling.

However, the congressman stated that Abure is still eligible to run for the job again.

“Exit the stage, but that does not mean leaving the Labour Party. The door is still open for him to run for election if he wants to remain as the national chairman, but the process must be followed through. He would have to wait when we have the structures from the wards and up,” Ogene said.

The leader of the Labour Party’s caucus in the House of Representatives claims that Abure is being supported by the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC, in his attempt to undermine the opposition party.

Speaking about the party’s headquarters, which is now seized by the Abure faction, Ogene emphasized that they were only adhering to proper process and said they will take over the secretariat in a few days.

Recall that former Finance Minister Nenadi Usman presided over the Labour Party’s National Executive Council meeting, which took held Wednesday in the capital city of Abuja at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti was present, along with Peter Obi, the 2023 LP presidential candidate, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.

There were also senators and members of the House of Representatives who belong to the party.
