The renowned Nigerian artist Innocent Idibia, better known by his stage name 2Face, has stated that “African Queen” was the song that ignited his career and that it is also one of his favorite songs.
Despite the song’s enormous advantages, he claimed it has been a hardship.
In a recent episode of Entertainment & Lifestyle, 2Face made a statement.
“African Queen has been a very huge blessing, and e come turn to problem join for me. But I am grateful for everything,” he said.
2Face became the first African artist to win the BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO awards after the 2004 release of African Queen, which catapulted him to international fame.
However, as Blackface, 2Face’s former bandmate, repeatedly accused 2Face of stealing the song, there have been disputes regarding the song’s originality.
In a prior interview, 2Face acknowledged that “African Queen” was initially a joint effort with his former colleagues, but he denied stealing the song.
For more than 20 years, the song has been a contentious issue. In August 2025, Billboard declared the song the “greatest Afrobeats song of all time,” sparking a new dispute.
