Former Information, Culture, and Tourism Commissioner Jonathan Vatsa, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, has demanded that Senate President Godswill Akpabio step down from office right away.
In addition, he demanded the leader of parliament to apologise to the young people participating in the protests for his remarks on the ongoing national demonstrations against deprivation and hunger.
Vatsa called Akpabio’s remarks “very callous, regrettable, and coming from the number three citizen of the country” in a statement headed “Time for Akpabio to go is now.”
In the lead-up to last week’s End Bad Governance demonstration, the Senate President is claimed to have indicated that those who choose to demonstrate can do so while he and other supporters of President Bola Tinubu will continue eating from his administration.
He pointed out that Akpabio chose to take the comedic route, while other notable Nigerians are busy pleading with the protesting youngsters to embrace discussion with the government and give peace a chance.
Vatsa, a former APC publicity secretary for the state, stated, “The same eating Akpabio ate for 16 years under the PDP government, he still wants to continue eating under the APC government. This is a tragedy of a nation”
“It is a huge error and a disservice to this country to turn around and make someone like Akpabio a Senate president in the APC government. That is why this government can never get it right.
The state APC chieftain maintained,” The APC as a party has been hijacked by those that Nigerians were fed up with and decided to embrace”Change” in 2015. They have been eating and they want to continue eating like Akpabio made Nigerians believe”.
“I said it before and I will repeat it that it is sad that we are giving red carpet reception to those we initially accused of looting this country with reckless abandon, so how can we get it right?
” This party must begin to redeem its image and build confidence in Nigerians before 2027. This must start from Akpabio’s resignation to let Nigerians know that we are serious as a party”
