Mr. Paul Chukwuma, a former national auditor for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a candidate for the party’s governorship in Anambra State, has expressed his satisfaction with the addition of new aspirants to the party.

Chukwuma expressed his happiness that people are now seeing the APC to be a good platform for political contests in response to questions from journalists on Thursday regarding Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu’s recent announcement for the governorship battle on his party’s platform.

In addition to United Nigeria Airlines Chairman Ukachukwu, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo just joined the party and is preparing to run for governor.

Speaking to reporters at his home in Umueri, the state’s Anambra East Local Government Area, Chukwuma stated: “You know political party is like a church, you enter at will and exit at will. But, I’m happy that a good number of people are beginning to join our party. It shows that APC is the party to beat, contrary to what was obtainable, where we were seen as a pariah party.

“I took it upon myself to clean up the party, fund it to what it has become today and now everyone is coming into the party. Within 18 to 24 months that I have tried to rejig the party and reposition it, people have started coming and we are happy that of all the parties, they think the best to join is APC.

“The good thing is that my party is going to win the governorship election in Anambra this year, and I’m appealing to my party people to help me win the ticket of the party because our focus is to win Anambra and reposition the state from what it is today.”

Chukwuma expressed his happiness that new candidates are following the house’s established rules in response to their promises to support the primary winner in the spirit of unity. He expressed confidence that he would win both the party’s ticket in April and the November gubernatorial election.

He said: “As a party man, I have been loyal and I have handled some very key assignments for the party, so I have seen it through and I’m dedicated and devoted to the party, and I know my party people will give me the ticket.

“I have shown the party what it means to lead and now we have a new APC and our party people can attest to this fact, to the point that people are now running into the party.

“The issue of supporting whoever emerges is very important. I know I will emerge and I know they will support me to win the election when I get the ticket, but if this does not work and God chooses someone else, I will be very happy to support whoever emerges.

“We are happy that they are joining our party, and we are going to have a college of aspirants that are qualified, and the number may still increase.”
