About 7,500 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including important party officials, have defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Yunusa Umar, the deputy chairman of the APC in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

At a reception hosted by the PDP’s local chairman, Hon. Yusuf Sabo, and the executive chairman of Dass LGA, Hon. Mohammed Abubakar Jibo, Umar formally joined the party together with APC Youth Leader Yusuf Inuwa Bora and Welfare Secretary Isah Zakaria.

In his remarks at the defection ceremony, Umar said that a key element in their decision was Governor Bala Mohammed’s people-oriented leadership.

“Governor Bala Mohammed’s policies since 2019 have demonstrated a strong commitment to the welfare of the people. Our supporters’ interests are our priority, and we believe the PDP is the best platform to achieve meaningful progress,” Umar stated.

The defectors pledged to support the PDP in next elections, emphasizing that Governor Mohammed’s developmental accomplishments, especially those made under former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, outstrip those made under the APC.

The new members were greeted by Hon. Jibo, who promised them complete party integration. In order to strengthen the PDP’s vision for Dass LGA and Bauchi State overall, he urged them to cooperate.
