Four alleged members of the Ambazonia rebel organisation have been captured by troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, or OPWS, in Taraba State.
Additionally, the forces attested to the recovery of pipes that had been stolen from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, or NNPCL, throughout the state.
Captain Oni Olubodunde, the Brigade’s acting spokesperson, told reporters in Jalingo, the state capital, on Saturday that the suspects were taken into custody at a hotel in Takum Local Government Area on December 18, 2024, after receiving reliable information.
“During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to being involved in arms proliferation, exchanging weapons for cocoa with Nigerian collaborators,” the statement read.
The statement claims that four cell phones were found among the accused, who are now in custody undergoing further investigation.
A truck carrying 19 stolen NNPCL pipelines was reportedly stopped by troops in the Natilde hamlet in Bantaji District, Wukari Local Government Area, in a different operation.
The truck, with registration number WKR 66 BB Taraba State, was followed using actionable intelligence, according to the troops.
Eleven more stolen pipelines were recovered, increasing the total to thirty, as a result of continued cooperation with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Wukari Division.
According to the announcement, the NSCDC has received the recovered pipelines for additional examination and any required action.
The Brigade reaffirmed their dedication to protecting people, property, and vital infrastructure and asked the public to support continued efforts by giving security authorities fast and reliable information to maintain peace and security in the region.
