The renowned Ballon d’Or organizers, France Football, released a new film on Monday that explained the nomination of Ademola Lookman of Atalanta for the prize this year.
The video, which was shared on their official X account, highlighted Lookman’s crucial contribution to the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s advancement to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship game. During the competition, the 26-year-old scored three goals and provided one assist.
It also highlighted his part in the historic victory of Atalanta over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final, in which he scored a hat-trick.
Last month, Lookman was selected as one of the 30 elite athletes for the 2024 Men’s Ballon d’Or shortlist.
The Nigerian international is vying for football’s most prized individual award against players like Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, and Rodri.
Lookman had 61 appearances for both Nigeria and Atalanta during the time frame under consideration for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, contributing 33 goal involvements (22 goals and 11 assists).
