Bandits stormed LGEA Primary School, Kuriga (1), in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday morning and abducted a large number of pupils as well as teachers.
ZINGTIE learned that the incident occurred right after the morning assembly at approximately 8:20 a.m.
According to locals, the victims included the school’s Headteacher and a few other staff members.
Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna, voiced his disgust with the incident and his hope that they would be set free.
“It’s tragic to hear that 232 students have just been kidnapped in Kuriga village, Chikun LG in Kaduna State.
“It’s the same village where a school principal, Idris Sufyan, was killed and his wife kidnapped over a month ago. However, I’m optimistic their freedom will be secured,” he said.
Due to worries about insecurity, the junior and secondary schools left their former school buildings outside the town and moved to the current building inside Kuriga.
When pupils saw the criminals on the school grounds, most of them fled their lessons, according to resident Shitu, who confirmed the incident.
Lawal Kuriga, another resident, added that the kidnapped victims had been marched into the forest.
Neither the state government nor the police had issued an official statement at the time this report was filed.
Police have not confirmed the number that the former senator disclosed.
