Many Nigerians think that Igbo is only spoken in the southeastern states. There are Igbo-speaking groups in many geopolitical zones of Nigeria, even though Igbo is the primary language spoken in the Southeastern states of Abia, Imo, Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi. 

There are certain states in the South-South region where the people speak Igbo. It may surprise you that several states in Nigeria’s North Central region still speak Igbo. This could be a result of the border they have with the East. 

The boundaries of Benue and Kogi states share the Eastern area. Enugu state shares borders with both Kogi and Benue states, while Anambra state shares borders with Kogi state.

The indigenous Igbo people of Kogi State are located in the Nwajala village in the Ibaji Local Government Area and the Akpanya and Eke Avurugo communities in the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area.

According to the Nations Newspaper, four local government areas in Benue State are home to almost a million Igbo people.

My purpose in presenting these facts is to inform Nigerians from all areas and ethnic groups that Nigeria is one nation and that our relatives are dispersed throughout the nation. To create this nation and put an end to calls for its division, we must recognize the unity in our variety and work together.
