At the Jigbale market in Udu LGA, Delta State, a 13-year-old child going by the name Christian has been observed selling tickets to commercial tricycle operators.
Many people are concerned about child labor in light of this development, wondering how a youngster could be used for such exploitation.
Witnesses said that Christian was observed selling tickets to local tricycle operators while standing on the side of the road.
Upon being approached, the little child disclosed that he was compelled to accept the work in order to provide for his family.
The Child Rights Act forbids the exploitation of children in any way, and this instance blatantly violates its prohibitions.
“No child shall be subjected to any form of exploitation, including economic exploitation,” according to Section 28 of the Act.
The development was denounced by child rights expert Comrade Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, who said, “It is unacceptable for a child to be subjected to such exploitation.”
“The government must take immediate action to protect the rights of children and ensure that they are not forced into labour,” he added.
It has been requested that the Delta State Government look into the matter and take appropriate action to shield Christian and other kids from being used in a similar manner.
