After 11 years of being childless, Rashidat Quadir, a housewife, filed a lawsuit in the Centre-Igboro Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, asking for her marriage to be dissolved because her husband, Quadir, often checks her trousers when she leaves the house.
According to ZINGTIE, Rashidat, the troubled woman, told the court that she needed a divorce after 11 years of being childless and experiencing her husband’s lack of affection. He humiliates her by checking her pants to see whether she had slept with another guy every time she got home from work.
She said, “My husband and his parents are frustrating me because I have no children. He no longer has trust in me and always raises issues with me each time I go out as he does not have trust in me any longer. He believes that anytime I go out, it is to visit another man. He therefore, forces me to swear with the Almighty Allah and the Holy Quran each time I go out, saying that I have gone to have an affair with another man. He goes as far as inspecting my pants to know if I had sex outside”.
Mrs. Quadir went on to say that her mother-in-law had frequently advised her to find another guy and to quit squandering her youth in their household.
She further said, “So, that was why I packed out of the house three months ago after so much threats, frustration and pain”.
The respondent clarified that he had not driven his wife from the home and that he was still interested in the marriage.
He said, “I just went to the office and returned home to meet her absence. The only thing I remember is that six years ago my parents called her parents to come and confirm if she was the one that caused our inability to have kids”.
“On the issue of challenging her, it is because she refused to allow me to have sex with her for two weeks. That was why I doubted her.”
The respondent further stated that he attempted to resolve the matter by paying a visit to his in-laws, who urged him to exercise patience with her and trust that she would eventually return home.
Shehu Ajimobi, the judge, gave the respondent time to make peace with his wife and counselled him to take all necessary steps to win her back, while also pleading with her to exercise patience.
