According to Dangote Refinery, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and other petroleum marketers are not facing any new legal action regarding the import of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).

This was revealed in a statement released on Monday by Anthony Chiejina, the Dangote Group spokesperson.

His remarks clarified the circulating news that Dangote Refinery had sued petroleum marketers and NNPCL in the Federal High Court to nullify their gasoline import permits.

The representative for the Dangote Group responded by saying that events have taken precedence over the issue.

“This is an old issue that started in June and culminated in a matter being filed on September 6, 2024.

“Currently, the parties are in discussion since President Bola Tinubu’s directive on crude oil and refined products sales in naira initiative, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council, FEC.

“We have made tremendous progress in that regard and events have overtaken this development.

“No party has been served with court processes and there is no intention of doing so. We have agreed to put a halt to the proceedings.

“It is important to stress that no orders have been made and there are no adverse effects on any party. We understand that once the matter comes up in January 2025, we would be in a position to formally withdraw the matter in court,” he stated.

The Dangote Refinery allegedly sued NNPCL and petroleum marketers over petrol imports, according to a report that surfaced on Monday.

ZINGTIE remembers that the price of the product was raised at all petrol stations after NNPCL lifted its ban on Dangote Petrol.

In a similar vein, NNPCL and other petroleum marketers announced a national increase in gas pump prices on October 9, 2024, to between N1030 and N1200 per litre.
