The arrest of Simon Ekpa, the self-declared prime minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, has raised hopes that he will be extradited to Nigeria, according to Gen. Chris Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, or CDS.

Brig Gen Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, revealed this in a statement.

The statement said that the CDS applauded Ekpa’s detention by the Finnish authorities.

“CDS is happy with his (Ekpa) arrest in Finland, with the hope this will be a step towards his extradition to Nigeria so that he will face justice,” the statement said.

ZINGTIE recalls that Simon Ekpa was remanded on probable cause for public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria by the Finland district court in Lahti.

Ekpa was charged with disseminating separatist propaganda associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, a group that calls for the secession of southeast Nigeria, via social media.
