Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated interest in meeting with President-elect Donald Trump to discuss the war with Ukraine, Trump tweeted on Sunday.

During his speech at Turning Point’s AmericaFest convention, Trump stated, “President Putin said that he wants to meet with me as soon as possible. So we have to wait for this, but we have to end that war. That war is horrible, horrible.”

Trump has stated on the campaign trail that he could stop the conflict “in 24 hours” if elected. He is scheduled to return to the White House in January. The president-elect recently denounced President Joe Biden’s policy shift that permitted Ukraine to attack inside Russian territory using weaponry provided by the United States.

Additionally, the president-elect has stated that once he assumes office, Ukraine may get less military assistance. In order to maintain its statehood and combat Russia after nearly three years of conflict, Ukraine is mostly dependent on its international allies for military, economic, and humanitarian support.

“The number of soldiers being killed,” It’s a flat plane, and the bullets are going and there’s powerful bullets, powerful guns, and the only thing that’s going to stop them is a human body.” Trump said Sunday

Ahead of the Notre Dame Cathedral’s reopening earlier this month, Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris. Trump demanded a “immediate ceasefire” after the meeting.
