The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, is the child of the Nigeria Police Force, according to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
When Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, paid him a courtesy call at the Force Headquarters on Monday in Abuja, the Inspector General made this statement.
The IGP vowed more assistance for the EFCC and called it “a good child of the Police.”
“We are proud to have the EFCC as our child. We will continue to support you”, he said.
Olukoyede had earlier, in his remarks, praised the police for raising the EFCC from its infancy and expressed happiness with the current collaboration between the two organizations.
“We are proud of the nurturing we received from the police and solicit more support, cooperation, and collaboration given the specialized nature of our work,” he said.
To solve the issue of operational overlap, he brought the attention of the IGP to the necessity of a Memorandum of Understanding, or MoU, between the police and the EFCC.
“There is no need to dissipate energy investigating similar cases. We can come up with an MoU to properly address such issues”, he said.
