In response to the recent tariff increase, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, or NERC, has sent five more directions to electricity distribution companies.
Abba Terab, the Deputy General Manager of Market Competition and Rates, signed a recent notification containing the guidelines.
Recall that on Tuesday of last week, NERC authorized a tariff for Band A electricity consumers receiving at least 20 hours of power supply at N225 per kilowatt-hour.
In a follow-up, NERC required all discos to ensure the new rate is solely applied to the 480 recently approved Band A feeders.
It mandated that all DisCos promptly publish the authorized Band A feeder schedule affected by the rate review on their websites.
The Commission emphasized that by April 10, 2024, all DisCos must have a portal built up on their websites that will enable all consumers to verify their current bands by inputting their account or meter numbers.
In light of this, NERC mandated that any customers who were incorrectly billed at the new rate receive a refund in the form of energy tokens by Thursday, April 11, 2024, and provide evidence of compliance to the Commission by April 12, 2024.
According to the Commission, compliance with the aforementioned requirements will be monitored, and all stakeholders will be provided with the necessary support.
