The Premier League assist record of Nigerian icon Austin Jay-Jay Okocha was surpassed on Saturday by Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

Ndidi accomplished the feat on Saturday afternoon after contributing two assists in Leicester City’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

He set up Jamie Vardy and Stephy Mavididi with an assist.

Wilfred Ndidi, a defensive midfielder by trade, was started by manager Steve Cooper in the attacking midfield position directly behind centre forward Jamie Vardy, and the two players combined to score the game’s opening goal.

With his two assists against Crystal Palace, he surpassed Okocha’s tally of 10 assists during his English career, bringing his total in the Premier League to 12.

Remember that Okocha played 125 Premier League games with Bolton Wanderers before he left the club, tallying 14 goals and ten assists.

Nwankwo Kanu, the legendary player of Arsenal, still holds the record for most assists in Premier League history among Nigerian players with 33.

Shola Ameobi (31 assists), Alex Iwobi (30 assists), and Kanu trail behind them.

Iheanacho Kelechi (25 assists),

Victor Moses (20 assists)

Peter Odemwingie (15 assists)

and Victor Anichebe (13 assists).
