The manager of the England national team, Gareth Southgate, may succeed Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford following the conclusion of this summer’s European Championships, according to Manchester United icon Roy Keane.
Ten Hag’s position at Manchester United is in jeopardy because he fails to produce positive outcomes. The team’s early exit from the EFL Cup and the UEFA Champions League and their exclusion from the Premier League title battle have been cited as contributing factors.
Southgate has been mentioned as a possible replacement for the Dutchman.
In an interview with the Stick to Football podcast, Keane expressed his belief that Southgate might succeed in his new role because of his relationship with Dan Ashworth and prior experience working with the England team.
The Irishman said: “I could see that happening, yeah.
“Everyone is thinking he is probably going to leave England this summer if he has a good championship, thinking if they could win it. And if they don’t, you are thinking maybe you have ran your race with it.
“He has that connection with Dan Ashworth and has worked with him previously. Yeah [I could see it happening].”
