The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has taken a strong stance against corruption by suspending three staff members and one student indefinitely over allegations of extortion, grade alterations, and sales.
The decision was made after a thorough review of a report from the ESUCOM Disciplinary Committee by the Management Committee, which was set up to investigate such cases.
The suspended staff members include Dr. Ezugwu Samuel Ndubuisi from the Department of Anatomy, Dr. Ugwuishi Emeka and Dr. Nwafor Charles from the Department of Physiology. Their suspension took effect on January 23, 2025, pending further investigations by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
According to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, “The university will not tolerate any form of corruption or misconduct. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and academic excellence.”
In a similar development, a student of the Medical Laboratory Science Department, ThankGod Chinonso Obi, was also suspended for aiding and abetting the offenses. The suspension letter was dated January 29, 2025, and signed by the Vice Chancellor.
Professor Okolie stated, “We will continue to take decisive action against anyone found to be involved in corrupt practices. Our students and staff must uphold the values of integrity, honesty, and hard work that our institution represents.
