France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom have expressed support for the Arab-backed plan on Gaza, opposing President Donald Trump’s proposal.

The European powers referred to the plan developed by Egypt as a “realistic” approach for post-war reconstruction.

The plan was approved at the Arab League Summit in Cairo on Tuesday and endorsed during the ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday.

The plan outlines a three-phase reconstruction process for Gaza, aiming to resettle 1.5 million displaced people into 200,000 new housing units and 60,000 renovated homes.

Arab leaders have agreed to establish a trust fund for donations and have earmarked $53 billion for the five-year reconstruction effort.

On Saturday, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK supported the plan and issued a joint statement through their foreign ministers.

They acknowledged the plan as a realistic path for Gaza’s reconstruction and a promise for the “sustainable improvement of the catastrophic living conditions.”

The European leaders also praised the collaborative efforts of all parties involved and recognized “the significant message the Arab states have sent by jointly creating this recovery and reconstruction plan.”

However, the European powers stressed that “Hamas must neither govern Gaza nor pose a threat to Israel.”
