Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has traveled to China for a series of official meetings focused on improving water supply to satellite communities within the FCT.

This was revealed by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, who noted that the minister “will any moment from now arrive in China.”

During President Bola Tinubu’s visit to China in September 2023, an agreement was signed with both the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and the CGCOC Group to enhance water and electricity access in the capital territory.

These initiatives are part of President Tinubu’s broader commitment to restore public trust through the development of essential infrastructure, such as clean water for underserved areas.

The president had earlier approved a N50 billion allocation specifically for expanding access to safe drinking water in FCT satellite towns.

While in China, Wike is expected to hold discussions with representatives from the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group.

In a statement he signed, Olayinka said: “Therefore, in keeping up with the President’s directive that there must be water supply in satellite towns in Gwagwalada, Kwali and Kuje Area Councils, the Minister has embarked on the trip to China for a crucial meeting with the CGCOC Group. He is expected back to Nigeria next week.”
