In Kano, hundreds of married ladies and other women flocked to the streets to protest the regular street gang clashes that frequently leave local residents dead or maimed.
Carrying placards with various slogans, the ladies conveyed their concern that gang groups known as Yandaba have been responsible for the deaths of numerous husbands and children.
“Today, our husbands and children are no longer safe with the attacks of the Daba Boys who storm at any given time to attack,” stated one of the ladies, who wished to remain anonymous.
“We cannot sleep with our two eyes closed because any time somebody might be chased into your house running to save his life. This is how bad the situation is”.
Another woman said ”we want the security agencies and the government to sincerely fight these criminals and eliminate them once and for all so that we will have peace in our area.
Nonetheless, the Nigeria Police’s Kano Command asserts that it has seen success in the battle against Daba and phone snatching.
According to the leadership, a joint committee led by Commissioner Yusuf Kofar Mata has been established by the government to combat the gang’s operations.
Hundreds of them have been imprisoned thus far, he claimed.
