On Monday, U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated that giving Washington an economic stake in Ukraine’s future would serve as a security guarantee for the nation, which Russia invaded in February 2022.
It is worth noting that President Donald Trump has been pursuing a deal involving Ukraine’s rich mineral resources, including lithium and rare earth minerals, as compensation for the billions of dollars in U.S. aid provided to Ukraine during the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Trump announced that he would provide more details about the potential deal on Tuesday.
It’s also important to recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent talks with Trump at the White House on Friday ended in a heated exchange and failed to reach any formal agreement regarding the deal.
“If you want real security guarantees, if you want to actually ensure that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not invade Ukraine again, the very best security guarantee is to give Americans economic upside in the future of Ukraine.
“That is a way better security guarantee than 20,000 troops from some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years,” Vance said.
