The Adamawa State Government has initiated efforts to connect all 21 of its local government areas (LGAs) to the internet, focusing on schools and other public institutions.
Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta shared this update at the conclusion of a training session organized by the state in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT). The training, held at Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola, saw 100 youths trained on addressing internet connectivity challenges, particularly in rural areas.
During the graduation ceremony, which covered topics such as cybersecurity, disaster management, and rural connectivity issues, Farauta highlighted the government’s use of satellite and fiber connectivity to bridge the digital divide, even in the most remote regions.
According to her, “Government is collaborating with Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy to provide high speed internet connectivity to all schools, primary health care centers and other public institutions.”
The Deputy Governor also announced that the state government had approved the digitalization of civil service records to reduce inefficiencies and ensure real-time access to vital government data.
Additionally, Farauta emphasized that the state’s empowerment programs, such as the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) initiative and the Spacehack 2025 project, are aligned with the development of a compact modular oneGov data center. This center aims to connect Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for seamless data sharing, ultimately improving transparency.
Jane Egerton, the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, also spoke during the event, confirming that plans are in place to provide broadband connectivity to all 21 LGAs in Adamawa State.
