Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has disclosed that he personally requested Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez to sign Kylian Mbappé in 2022.

He mentioned that he wanted to see the French forward at the Santiago Bernabéu after facing him in the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League Round-of-16 match between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

At the time, Casemiro was a key player for Real Madrid, and the current Manchester United star stated that it was impossible to stop Mbappé during their encounter.

With Casemiro in midfield, Real Madrid won 3-2 on aggregate against PSG, but Mbappé remained a constant danger to the Spaniards.

The France captain netted his team’s only goal in the first leg in Paris, which finished 1-0. He then scored again at the Santiago Bernabéu to give PSG a 2-0 aggregate advantage.

However, Madrid mounted a remarkable comeback, progressing to the quarter-finals after Karim Benzema’s second-half hat-trick completed a stunning turnaround for Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

The La Liga giants eventually won the Champions League that season, defeating Premier League club Liverpool 1-0 in the final.

Mbappé now plays for Real Madrid, having joined the club on a free transfer two years later.

Casemiro, on the other hand, left the Santiago Bernabéu to join Manchester United in the summer of 2022.

In an interview with Spanish outlet Diario AS, the Brazilian stated:  “Did I ask for Mbappé to be signed after the match at the Parc des Princes? Yes. I spoke to the president and told him: ‘Sign him, it’s impossible to stop him.’”
