Israel’s security cabinet is scheduled to convene on Tuesday evening in Jerusalem to address the ongoing situation in Gaza, according to an announcement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office.
Though the official agenda remains undisclosed, local media reports indicate that the focus of the meeting will likely be renewed efforts toward a ceasefire agreement and negotiations aimed at securing the release of hostages still being held in Gaza.
Earlier in the month, the cabinet approved a military strategy allowing Israeli forces to take control of Gaza City. However, the upcoming session is expected to emphasize diplomatic channels rather than advancing military operations.
Netanyahu recently instructed his negotiation team to expedite talks concerning the captives after Hamas reportedly accepted a ceasefire proposal brokered by international mediators.
The proposed deal outlines a phased exchange process hostages in return for Palestinian detainees set to unfold over an initial two-month period.
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, a key advocacy body for the captives, has called on the government to act without delay. The group has organized a nationwide campaign for Tuesday to demand immediate action.
“An overwhelming majority of Israelis want our loved ones brought home,” the group said in a statement.
“Any delay in securing their return contradicts the will of the people and the values of mutual responsibility and solidarity.”
This renewed diplomatic momentum comes as both domestic and global actors continue to urge Israel to align its military strategy with pressing humanitarian and political concerns in the region.
