Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari has been named the new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Ten important facts concerning him are as follows:

  1. Ojulari hails from Share, an old town in Kwara State’s Ifelodun Local Government.
  2. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.
  3. He started out at Elf Aquitaine, where he was the company’s first Nigerian process engineer.
  4. Ojulari became an associate production technician with Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd. in 1991.
  5. He had a variety of positions in Europe and the Middle East, including asset manager, field developer, strategic planner, and petroleum process and production engineer.Ojulari served as Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company’s (SNEPCo) managing director from 2015 till his retirement in July 2021.
  6. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and has been chairman and a member of the board of trustees of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE Nigerian Council).
  7. Ojulari became the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited upon his retirement from Shell.
  8. He oversaw a group of domestic energy companies at Renaissance that paid $2.4 billion to acquire Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC).
  9. He oversaw a group of indigenous energy companies at Renaissance that paid $2.4 billion to acquire Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC).
  10. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board of BAT Advisory & Energy Company, a company that provides upstream and midstream investment advisory services.
  11. Ojulari has over 34 years of expertise in the oil and gas sector and has demonstrated success in managing petroleum assets and leading businesses.
  12. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) questioned Ojulari, the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCO), about the contentious Malabu oil block (OPL 245) sale.
