Adepoju Ifaleke, a 42-year-old herbalist, appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrate’s Court in Oyo State on Tuesday on charges of interfeting with the corpse and exhuming a dead person.

On one count of indecently messing with a deceased person’s body, Ifaleke is on trial.

To the charge, the defendant entered a not guilty plea.

Sgt. Samuel Owolabi, the prosecution, informed the court that the defendant committed the crime at Komu Agate Mining Camp in Komu, Iseyin, Oyo State, on April 9 at approximately six in the morning.

The defendant was arrested after Owolabi claimed that he had indecently tampered with a human corpse by exhuming it and removing some of its bones and hair.

According to him, the offense was against Oyo State’s 2000 Criminal Code Laws, Section 242 (1) (b).

The defendant was granted bail of N500,000 with two sureties of the same amount by the magistrate, Miss G.I. Oladele.

Oladele then postponed the case until a hearing on May 12.
