Ten people were rescued and three suspects were taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command after they discovered a suspected baby factory operating in the Ijegun region of the state.
During a press briefing on Monday, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s spokeswoman, confirmed the development.
According to him, the operation came about as a result of rapid police action after a reliable tip was received on Saturday.
Mariam Vincent, 35, the alleged facility operator, was taken into custody by Command officers after they conducted a raid on the property.
Orie Ruth, age 23, and Ujunwa Ifeanyi, age 18, were also arrested as accomplices.
Three youngsters and seven adult women who were allegedly being detained against their will were freed by the police during the operation.
The rescued youngsters were named Destiny (7), Miracle (5), and Success (2), while the adult victims were named Precious (24), Magdalene (25), Adaobi (23), Princess (22), Ifeanyi (25), and Amaka (26).
While investigations are ongoing, all rescued individuals are currently getting treatment and support.
Hundeyin claims that after initial questioning, it was discovered that the suspects had kidnapped their victims from different locations in Lagos with the goal of running an illicit child trafficking network.
He went on to say that additional inquiries were being conducted and that the suspects will be prosecuted when the time came.
Hundeyin provided a more comprehensive security briefing, stating that during the previous two weeks, 39 people had been arrested by the state’s police for a variety of offenses, including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, child theft, vandalism, and illegal possession of firearms and drugs.
In another incidence, on March 26, 2025, two kidnap victims were rescued by Command officers in the Igbe Alagemo community of Ijede, Ikorodu, after they were violently attacked by armed attackers.
According to Hundeyin, the assailants broke into the neighborhood late at night, shot and killed a security dog, and took a 40-year-old guy named Dare from his house. After that, the group went to a nearby house and seized Rodiat, 25, with force.
The police and local security personnel began a coordinated effort after receiving a distress call at approximately 9 p.m. on the night of the event.
Three days later, the victims were safely rescued at approximately 11:56 p.m. on March 29.
Since then, the victims and their families have been reunited, and the area’s security has been strengthened to stop similar incidents in the future.
