A young schoolboy, Akorede, has become an unlikely beneficiary of Nigerians’ generosity after his spontaneous dance appearance in a video shared by a Lagos-based businesswoman, Nze Matilda.
The video, which was originally intended to celebrate the reopening of Matilda’s store, has sparked an outpouring of donations, with Akorede receiving over ₦2 million in just a few days.
The story began on Monday when Matilda, known as @bellz_beautybase on Instagram, posted the video featuring Akorede’s lively dance. The video quickly went viral, capturing the hearts of Nigerians nationwide. As donations poured in, Matilda made it her mission to locate Akorede and ensure he received the funds.
On Tuesday, Matilda handed over the initial ₦250,000 to Akorede’s family, saying,
“As I was posting, more people were sending in donations for them. I know about grace, and I’ve experienced it firsthand, but this boy’s grace is on another level.
As the donations continued to pour in, Matilda kept her followers updated, revealing that by Friday, the total had reached ₦700,000.
She wrote, “Somebody shout GRACE! You guys, ₦700,000 in total! He saw me dancing while walking home, and then he stopped and joined in. His mother couldn’t believe it when I called her, saying her son didn’t even know how to dance.”
By later Friday, donations had reached ₦1.1 million, and an anonymous donor pledged to sponsor Akorede’s education from secondary school through university. Matilda shared;
“₦1.1 million plus a sponsorship up to university level. An anonymous donor has offered to cover all of Akorede’s school fees. This story has left me in awe. God works in mysterious ways, and I am privileged to be His instrument. Thank you, God, for this.”
By Saturday, donations had surged to over ₦2 million. Matilda expressed her amazement, saying,
“₦1,759,000 + ₦250,000 = ₦2,009,000. From ₦100k to ₦2 million for Akorede. This young boy is now a millionaire! We’ve already given them ₦250,000 and will hand over the balance today. Even in my sleep, I can account for every naira donated. This is massive!”
Matilda concluded by expressing her gratitude for the overwhelming support and reiterated her commitment to ensuring the funds are delivered responsibly to Akorede and his family.
