The Israeli military has acknowledged that a barrage of about sixty rockets fired from Lebanon resulted in the deaths of two civilians in northern Israel.

A man and a woman in the town of Kiryat Shmona were killed by a missile attack, according to a report on X from the Magen David Adom rescue service.

Five persons were hurt by shrapnel in the port city of Haifa; a 16-year-old was among those who had moderate injuries, while the other injuries were minor.

The Iranian-backed Hezbollah group in Lebanon has been pounding Israel’s northern border region with rockets, grenades, and drones since the beginning of the Gaza War a year ago, however the Israeli military did not identify the source of the missile fire on Wednesday.

The group says that their acts are an expression of support for Hamas in Gaza.

Since September, Israel has launched massive airstrikes and a ground invasion against Hezbollah in Lebanon, greatly stepping up its military effort against the group.
