Suspects connected to the infamous Lakurawa bandits demanded a bribe of N1 million, but Kebbi State Police Command operators turned it down.

Nafiu Abubakar, the command’s public relations officer, made this announcement in the state capital of Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

The three suspects were named by Abubakar as Usman Muhammadu (50) of Bakaramba village in Argungu Local Government Area, Umaru Garba (53), of Dangandu village, and Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji Mamman (51), of Maimaichi village, both in Arewa Local Government Area.

In order to thwart the investigation and prosecution of a banditry case involving alleged Lakurawa terrorists operating in northern Kebbi State, he claimed, the suspects banded together to give the lead investigator a bribe of N1,060,000.

He went on to say that the State Criminal Investigation Department, or CID, in Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi, is where the attempted bribe occurred.

The suspects were taken into custody right away, according to the PPRO, and investigations are still underway. Abubakar emphasized that charges will be brought against them once the inquiry is complete.

Bello Sani, the state commissioner of police, praised the detectives for their professionalism and honesty in his remarks about the development. He exhorted other cops to follow their example of pursuing justice.

In order to secure socioeconomic growth in Kebbi State, Sani reiterated the command’s determination to step up efforts to combat banditry and other crimes.
