Amarachukwu Happiness Nzekwe, a 38-year-old woman, said that she simply used the hot pressing iron on her househelp’s back as a form of discipline.

The househelp allegedly stole the money from the woman, who claimed to be a nurse from Ezinifitte, Aguata Local Government Area.

She clarified that when the boy refused to admit stealing, she scalded his back with a pressing iron that she had set on top of a stove.

Following her arrest, Mrs. Nzekwe admitted her crimes to representatives of the Anambra State Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, who were supervised by the commissioner, Ify Obinabo.

She told the commissioner: “All the suffering I have been going through because of this boy. I just had surgery, and I came back home and found money missing. I didn’t plug the iron into electricity, I just placed it on stove to discipline him.”

The victim, who was just 13 years old, was identified as her nephew. She was also accused of frequently locking the youngster inside the house without providing him with food.

Obinabo declared that Nzekwe would face legal action and that Anambra State would not tolerate such behavior.

Later, the suspect was turned over to the police so they could conduct additional research and file charges.
