The Great Ife Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has issued a stern warning to students and the entire university community against cultism and cult-like activities on campus.
In a statement released on Sunday, the union leaders expressed concern over observed “cult-like movements and activities by some individuals on campus.” The statement, jointly signed by President Omoboriowo Isaac, Secretary General Babatimehin Kínfẹ́ọsi, and Public Relations Officer Aka Daniel, reiterated the union’s zero-tolerance policy for cultism.
“The Great Ife Students’ Union maintains a zero-tolerance policy for cultism and cult-like activities on Obafemi Awolowo University campus,” the statement read.
“The union holds in high regard the sacrifices of George Iwilade (Afrika) and the OAU 5, and we remain committed to ensuring their legacy is not dishonored.”
The union leaders emphasized that “OAU is renowned as a cultism-free campus, and we are resolute in sustaining this legacy.”
They urged all students to “desist from cult-like activities and remain vigilant against individuals promoting such practices.”
The statement warned.
“Any individual, whether a student or non-student, found engaging in cultism or related activities will face the full force of the law.”
The OAU community has a long history of maintaining zero tolerance for cultism, a legacy that dates back to the July 10, 1999, cult attack on campus, which resulted in the gruesome murder of five students, including George Iwilade, the then Secretary-General of the union.
Every July 10, the students’ union holds commemoration events to remember the slain students and reiterate their stance against cultism.

I stand with you as a Great Wife too. Even far back in the 80s, we refused to let cultism grow.
…as a Great Ife too…
