Certificates of return have been given to the recently elected chairman of Osun State’s 30 local government councils.

On Saturday, local government elections were held throughout the state by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC.

The Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, was declared the winner of every chairmanship and councillorship in the state by OSIEC following the election.

The winners were then given their certificates by the commission.

OSIEC Information Officer Sadiat Isiaka revealed in a statement that Hashim Abioye, the Commission’s chairman, congratulated the elected chairmen on their win.

According to Isiaka, Abioye advised the recently elected chairmen to serve the people and act as worthy representatives of democracy.

The PDP chapter in Osun State, however, praised the voters for using their democratic rights during Saturday’s local elections.

Sunday Bisi, the party’s chairman in Osun, referred to the electorate as democracy’s heroes.

In a statement released on Sunday, Bisi acknowledged his satisfaction with the poll’s peaceful conduct and lavished the Osun voters with praise for overcoming unnecessary provocation and harassment by compromised security personnel, particularly the police, who were trying to sabotage the elections.

“Before and on Saturday, the will of our people for democracy was greatly tested by anti-democratic elements. From biased opinions to unlawful advice, the rights of Osun people to elect those who administer their affairs at the grassroots came under grave threat,” he said.
