Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, has expressed regret to the people of the state for forcing Siminalayi Fubara, his successor, upon them.
Remember that Wike selected Fubara as his chosen candidate for Rivers State governor during the general election of 2023?
Since then, Wike and Fubara have drifted apart. Wike is currently the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Minister.
In order to mediate a settlement between Wike and Fubara, President Bola Tinubu intervened.
But in a speech to his supporters over the weekend in Rivers, Wike acknowledged that imposing Fubara on the people was a mistake.
“I’m not to say I’m perfect or that every decision I’ve taken is right. I’m a human,” he said.
“I may have made decisions that may not be palatable to everybody but in my position I was influenced to accept it.
“And you accepted it and it turned out to be bad, pls forgive me. Forgive me,” the minister said.
